Laban Anunda Okune was born and raised in Butere, Kenya. He spent his childhood playing in the forest, using his slingshot to catch birds, and studying. He moved to Nairobi, Kenya in 2002 to study computer engineering at Kenyatta University.
Laban currently works at a government parastatal body, Kenya Medical Supplies Agency, as their Senior Systems Developer. He loves programming and in his spare time runs a start-up called Ma3Route.
Angela Hitomi Skye Crandall was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii. She spent her childhood reading lots of books, singing jazz with her pianist father, surfing with friends, and playing basketball. She moved to Washington, DC to study international environmental issues at Georgetown University and it was during her time at Georgetown that she first traveled to East Africa.
Angela moved to Kenya in 2010 to conduct research under a Fulbright Fellowship. A month after she moved to Nairobi, she met Laban.
Angela continues to live and work in Nairobi and is currently Research Lead at iHub, Nairobi’s Innovation Hub.
Laban and Angela got married on December 21, 2013 in the beautiful church of St. Clement’s in Honolulu, Hawaii . They celebrated their union with family and friends at a small reception at Bayer Estate in Aina Haina. They continue to live in Nairobi, Kenya and look forward to life’s adventures together. This blog will be a place for them to share some of their stories.
